A process-driven, artsy approach to memory keeping

If you enjoy artsy scrapbooking, layered textures, and letting creativity lead rather than following a strict plan, this grungy vintage 12 x 12 scrapbook layout is a project you’ll love.

In this tutorial-style blog post, I’m sharing the creative process behind a mixed-media scrapbook page designed around a sepia-toned wedding photograph, using stamping, stenciling, splatter, ribbon, and embellishments. This style is perfect for heritage photos, family memories, and anyone who enjoys a more organic, intuitive approach to scrapbooking.

This layout was created by building layers gradually and responding to the page as it evolved. Rather than designing around a photo first, the background was treated as a piece of art, with the photograph added once the page had developed its own personality.

1. Building the Background

The project begins with a 12 x 12 white cardstock base. Stencils and spritzed ink are used to create loose, organic texture. Excess moisture is blotted with tissue to prevent smearing while keeping the background soft and imperfect.

The aim here is movement and depth, not precision.

2. Layered Stamping

Branches and leaves are stamped across the background using Pecan Pie and Early Espresso. Some leaves are left natural, while others are lightly colored to add variation and dimension.

Stamping directly onto the background helps unify the page.

3. Adding Flowers and Contrast

Two-step floral stamps are added using Strawberry Slush and Real Red. The red instantly brings the page to life and balances the neutral browns, creating strong focal points without overpowering the design. The stamps are from Delightful Wishes stamp set.

Smaller blossom stamps are scattered throughout the layout to guide the eye around the page.

4. Photo Placement

A printed (not original) photograph is layered with torn cardstock to soften the edges and maintain the vintage feel. Tearing instead of cutting keeps the layout relaxed and organic.

Tip: Always use a printed copy when working with mixed media techniques.

5. Ribbon and Texture

Real Red ribbon is loosely ruffled and attached using staples for a slightly textured, grungy look. Pink foil thread is rolled and tucked under layers to add movement and subtle shine.

These textural elements help anchor the photo and create visual interest.

6. Embellishing

Heart embellishments, buttons, pearls, and a small rose are added sparingly. Older embellishments work beautifully in vintage layouts and add a sense of nostalgia and storytelling.

Glue dots are used where regular adhesive struggles, especially on ribbon and textured surfaces.

This grungy vintage scrapbook layout is a reminder that scrapbooking doesn’t have to be perfect to be meaningful. Let layers build naturally, trust your instincts, and don’t be afraid to use those special embellishments you’ve been saving.

When this theme was chosen a few weeks ago, we didn’t yet know some lovely news that I can now share with you. The Stamping Sunday Blog Hop team is merging with the Creation Station Team!

Faith Journalling with Stampin’ Up! Stamps and Ink

For this month’s project, I decided to put stamps and ink to paper and create a set of personal faith journalling prompts. I designed the prompts with the help of ChatGPT and printed them onto Stampin’ Up! Basic White cardstock. Then I set about doing some Collage Style stamping.

To make them practical as well as pretty, I formatted the document so that four pages printed on one A4 sheet, making them the perfect size for my Personal Filofax.

Creative Stationery for Journals, Diaries & Desk Calendars

The gorgeous Stampin’ Up! stamps and inks were ideal for decorating the prompts, with a few designs feeling subtly seasonal. Stamping Sunday Blog Hop - {Gorgeous Gifts} -

Well a warm hello to you this wet and cold November.

This month it's all about the gifts, I've chosen to step up my gift wrap with a loaded envelope.  Some of you who have been reading my blog for a while may remember I made one back in 2021, here is a link to it.

Using the Woven Textures DSP (165560) I used 2 sheets to create a pouch.

Then stuffed it with some gifts wrapped using Vellum sheets (167099) and a strip of floral paper from the Floral Charm DSP (166125) and trimmed it with the Petal Pink braided trim (166140)

The hole at the top of the tag was punched with one of the small punches from a set of 3 (165409)

To create the effect on the vellum I used the Forever Plaid embossing folder 164049

SSBH - Nature's Palette - INK STAMPS PAPER

Welcome to this month's Stampin Sunday Blog Hop.

Our theme is Nature’s Palette, which couldn’t be more perfect for this time of year. Here in Wales, the trees are alive with stunning autumn colours—deep reds, golden yellows, and rustic oranges. It’s impossible not to feel inspired to bring these seasonal shades into our handmade cards.

Creating My Own Patterned Paper

One of my favourite techniques in cardmaking is creating my own patterned paper using Stampin’ Up! stamps. For this project, I stamped and layered different images to mimic the richness of autumn foliage.

I used the following Stampin’ Up! stamp sets:

• Gathering Moments

• Branching Out

• Christmas Greenery

• Impressions Abloom

• Gallery Blooms

Stampin’ Up! Ink Colours

The vibrant colour palette was built from these Stampin’ Up! Ink Pads:

• Cherry Cobbler

• Real Red

• Pumpkin Pie

• Timid Tiger

• Crushed Curry

• Darling Duckling

All of these were stamped onto Darling Duckling cardstock, giving a warm and earthy base.

The Finished Autumn Card

Once my background paper was complete, I designed the finished card by keeping the colour scheme simple and cohesive. I paired Darling Duckling with Timid Tiger cardstock, then added a few delicate die cuts for texture and interest. The result is a card that perfectly captures the beauty of autumn.
